The Garden @ SCC!

Brighter Living have been successful in receiving funding for a community garden at Southport Community Centre via Groundwork through Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ scheme, work started in late April/early May 2016 and as of August 2016 there have been major changes to the outside space which includes the construction of 5 raised beds, 3 wall mounted pallet growing areas and flowers beds amongst other developments!

Through the development we have been supported by many groups such as Buddy Up, National Citizens Service, St Simons Youth Group, our volunteers, local businesses and users of the centre to develop a space which is ready to use but also has the potential to grow furthermore. There will still be opportunities for the public, particularly youth groups, to get involved in the development of the community garden and we look forward to working with you all soon.

To help with the maintanence, upkeep and further development of the garden we are looking for a team of volunteers who will meet regularly (once a week in the spring/summer time) to maximise the potential of this space and for it to be a great area for the community to really benefit from. If you are interested in volunteering or donating any materials for the garden area please let us know by following the links below or contacting us directly.

The garden designs were drawn up based on a number of workshops we held in 2015 with local residents already accessing the centre and the general public. If you are interested in helping us or have materials that we can use as we want it to be as eco friendly as possible we would love to hear from you!
