Healthy Families is a family orientated healthy living course suitable for children aged 5 years and above and their parents/carers. The course will last for 8 weeks and will cover aspects of healthy eating, healthy living, cookery and physical activity. Each week a different topic of healthy eating or healthy living will be covered and each session will involve a practical cookery element. Each session will last 2-3 hours and each course will cater for up to 4 families (based on 4 people per family).
Healthy eating topics to be covered will include:
- The importance of food
- Eating on a budget
- Smart food shopping
- Food labelling
Healthy living topics to be covered will include:
- Importance of regular physical activity
- Positive lifestyle choices
- Positive mental health and wellbeing
Participants will also be taught basic cookery skills and will cook healthy family meals and receive fruit and vegetables to take home to prepare healthy meals at home. There will be opportunities for structured physical activity sessions to occur and the potential for participants to try out new sports and activities.
